Established in honor of retired Superintendent John Burgart to enhance resources in our school libraries. The Burgart Fund for Dubuque Public School Libraries is an endowed fund that grants annual awards to purchase books and materials. In January 2018, FDPS delivered a giant check in the amount of $1,000 to Dubuque Senior High School. These funds, from the Burgart Fund for Dubuque Public School Libraries, were used to purchase items for the Dubuque Senior High School library makerspace. During the visit, FDPS board and staff members introduced students to the idea of philanthropy and explained how individuals like John Burgart can make a lasting, positive impact in the community be becoming a philanthropist. A nonprofit partner of the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque, FDPS promotes the importance of public education by increasing community investment for the enhancement of student achievement in Dubuque's Public Schools.
