Uniting donors and critical needs during a time of disaster is one of the ways we build a better, stronger community.

It’s a task we take very seriously.

We stay informed and connected with all the responders and resources. We then identify steps to be taken and direct specialized activities that need to happen, often at a moment’s notice.

What Is a COAD?

A COAD (Community Organizations Active in Disaster) is a network of nonprofits, businesses and individuals working collaboratively to minimize the effects of a disaster.

This means strengthening the community’s capacty prepare for, prevent, mitigate and recover from emergencies, from natural disasters to public health crises.

Our Rolee

In addition to helping communities in our region form COADs, we also convene the Dubuque County COAD facilitating communication, coordination, collaboration and cooperation among partners.

As a regional community foundation we lead fundraising efforts to ensure our Diaster Recovery Fund can support a robust emergency response. We also draw on our knowledge of and relationships with local nonprofits to lead grantmaking efforts, deploying funds where they are needed most.
