26 Delaware County nonprofits receive nearly $104,000 in grants

Building on its mission to improve the quality of life for the people and towns it serves, the Community Foundation of Delaware County awarded nearly $104,000 in grants to 26 local nonprofits during a ceremony on May 6 at the county fairgrounds. The grants support initiatives from park improvements to healthcare facility enhancements.

“Our grants have a meaningful impact on the communities in Delaware County,” says Amanda Diers, executive director. “Whether they help maintain community gardens and cemeteries or helping families meet basic needs, these grants empower people and nonprofits to make their small towns thrive.”

The Foundation holds nearly $9 million in funds that pay out annually – forever – to support community projects, nonprofits, and solutions to emerging challenges. Since inception, that family of funds has granted out $4.6 million. Through its annual grant cycle, the Foundation has provided another $2.1 million to communities and nonprofits. The Foundation’s grants are historically made possible because of funds received each year from the State of Iowa County Endowment Program.

At the May 6 ceremony, the Foundation’s advisory board also honored retiring members Tom McDonald and Jackie Johnson, who have served for more than 7 years and 20 years, respectively.

“We are grateful to Tom and Jackie for their leadership and for their commitment to the well-being of the people we call neighbors,” Diers says.

The Foundation offers many opportunities for community members to give back to their community. Donors who give to the Foundation’s endowment funds may benefit from the Endow Iowa 25% State Tax Credit in addition to federal charitable income tax deductions.
