At-Home Learning Desks for DCSD Students
As at home learning has surged during the pandemic, community members have realized that many kids don’t have desks at home to work on. For some families they noticed their children keep taking over the kitchen table for their remote lessons. The FDPS was approached by Richard Szydlowski, community member, who wanted to make a difference. The desks he has made are simple, but they do the trick. FDPS and the DCSD are working together to identify students that would benefit from an at-home learning desks, and work with community members and businesses to make that a reality.
The first desks will be delivered soon and we are ready to begin on our next batch. Spahn & Rose Lumber Co. will be partnering with the FDPS in several different ways to be able to get more desks into the homes of our students. If you are interested in learning more on how you could give of our time and talents or financially, please contact Amy Unmacht at amyu@dbqfoundation.org or 563-588-2700. If your child is in need of a desk, please contact your school counselor.
The Foundation for Dubuque Public Schools (FDPS) promotes the importance of public education by increasing community investment for the enhancement of student achievement in the Dubuque Public Schools.
