Celebrating Jackson County’s Voices of America: Lucy Zeimet

The Community Foundation of Jackson County is proud to celebrate America’s 250th birthday by honoring Voices of America.
Lucy Zeimet is one of eight regional voices lifted up to share the stories of people who hold our community together two and a half centuries after our nation’s founding.
“What really matters to our citizens is at the heart of the Voices of America initiative,” said Lori Loch, Community Foundation Executive Director. “We value every voice as we work with donors, make grants, and serve as a trusted convener addressing shared community needs.”
Zeimet said, “As a leader in Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and approaching the nation's 250th, my challenge is awareness. We hosted an event at the local brewery, I dressed up like George Washington, and that was both fun and a success. We just want people to come together around the history and heroes of the American Revolution. My strong ancestral connection is through a farmer in Connecticut who served at several intervals during the war. He had to go home in between to tend his farm and crops; but took up with the infantry to fight for our freedom.”
Celebrating our enduring democracy is at the heart of DAR. Zeimet and others have been planning for the 250th for some time and will honor Revolutionary War veterans with bronze medals at the cemetery.
Voices of America events will be hosted by the Foundation and take place this summer. They will feature a six-foot tall American eagle. Look for the table, take a family photo with the American eagle, and help write the story of our community on America’s 250th birthday. Hearing directly from individuals will help the Foundation make decisions on grants and initiatives in the coming year.
