Celebrating Delaware County’s Voices of America: Elise Bergan

The Foundation for the Future of Delaware County is proud to celebrate America’s 250th birthday by honoring Voices of America.

Elise Bergan of Edgewood is one of eight regional voices lifted up to share the stories of people who hold our community together two and a half centuries after our nation’s founding.

“What really matters to our citizens is at the heart of the Voices of America initiative,” said Amanda Diers, Community Foundation's Executive Director. “We value every voice as we work with donors, make grants and serve as a trusted convener addressing shared community needs.”

Bergan serves as the Director of Edgewood Economic Development. She reflected, “Recruitment of individuals to serve on school board, city council, chamber, and other essential organizations in the community is a priority focus for me. The biggest challenge we face is recruitment of new leaders. That’s why I am just always out there, at ball games, on the sidewalk, and within meetings, asking people, ‘How do you want to help?’”

Bergan leads by example, rolling up her sleeves for hands-on tasks whether it be for the annual rodeo or a sports concession stand. She seeks out partnerships with the Community Foundation, including endowment building for local nonprofits. Whether it be housing, scholarships, memorial funds, daycare, or main street vitality, Bergan is at the table.

Voices of America events will be hosted by the Foundation and take place this summer. They will feature a six-foot tall American eagle. Look for the table, take a family photo with the American eagle, and help write the story of our community on America’s 250th birthday. Hearing directly from individuals will help the Foundation make decisions on grants and initiatives in the coming year.
