Community Foundation donors support local youth through three scholarships
The River Bluff Community Foundation helps generous donors support youth and education with three scholarship funds that will make awards in 2020. Last year, students received $7,500 in scholarships from the Community Foundation’s funds.
The Foundation, an affiliate of the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque, establishes endowment funds that will provide grant awards for years to come. That makes it a go-to organization for community leaders like Bernie Lehman, who wanted to memorialize a loved one and create a lasting legacy.
Bernard and Anna Lehman Scholarship
The Bernard and Anna Lehman Scholarship Fund was established in 2011 to help Clinton High School students pursue higher education by providing incentives for academic progress, reducing the financial burden, and creating a positive impact in the community by way of recipients’ successes. Over the years, the endowment fund has helped numerous Clinton High School students achieve their educational and career goals.
Jack and Gerry Voss Scholarships
The Jack and Gerry Voss Memorial Trade Scholarship celebrates the family business, Voss Brothers Plumbing & Heating. Jack and Gerry were generous community members, and their family has chosen to honor their memory with a $500 trade scholarship. The scholarship goes to a graduating senior of Clinton High School who has been enrolled in a trade program and plans to pursue a trade after high school.
Jack and Gerry attended many CHS sporting events to watch their children and grandchildren. The Jack and Gerry Voss Memorial Athletic Scholarship is a $500 award for a Clinton High School athlete who has contributed to his or her team on and off the field, maintained a “B” average or higher in the classroom and plans to attend college full time.
Camanche VFW and American Legion Scholarship
This new scholarship will be available for the first time in 2020. Decisions are still being made about eligibility. For more information, contact Camanche High School Guidance Counselor Danielle Sampson at 563-259-3008.
With an understanding of the Community Foundation’s role and the importance of the endowment fund, Lehman scholarship recipients share their gratitude.
“It goes further than the money,” said recipient McKenna Greenwalt. “You put in all this time, and someone in your community recognizes it and helps you get to that next level. All of the people who have touched us helped us become the people we are today.”
“I would like to go back to the old saying that it takes a village,” said recipient Katie Pollpeter. “The people who donate and invest time into foundations like this are part of that village.”
