Delaware County nonprofits receive $110,000
Celebrating two decades of impact in local communities, the Foundation for the Future of Delaware County awarded $109,636 in grants during a May event in Manchester.
Thanks to this year’s grants, nonprofits will be able to serve the community in many ways, such as providing meals to seniors, offering summer camps to kids, ensuring first responders are equipped to do their jobs, and increasing access to child care.
The Foundation planned a special $20,000 award in honor of the 20th anniversary for an innovative proposal that would build on community strengths and impact the entire county. Delaware County Economic Development received the award for its entrepreneurship and workforce retention programs. “We felt that the entire county would be impacted by bringing new businesses to Main Streets, driving population growth and encouraging people to stay in the county to live, work and play,” says Jackie Johnson, a member of the Foundation’s grant committee.

Today, the Foundation holds over $6.7 million in funds that pay out annually – forever – to support community projects, nonprofits, and solutions to emerging challenges. Since inception, that family of funds has granted out $4.3 million. Through its annual grant cycle, the Foundation has provided another $2 million to communities and nonprofits. The Foundation’s grants are historically made possible because of funds received each year from the State of Iowa County Endowment Program.
“Whether it is the hospital, schools, little league diamonds, economic development, daycares, or another worthy cause, our grants have had an impact on a broad range of the communities in Delaware County,” says Johnson. “We take pride in what we have accomplished: working with many wonderful nonprofits and volunteers who want to make their community more viable.”
The Foundation board also honored founding board members Jerry Burke and Jill Buschmann, who are retiring from service after volunteering for two decades.
