Artist's Statement
Scale of Imbalance (The Chemical Weight)

“Scale of Imbalance (The Chemical Weight)” is a statement on brain health and addiction in our youth. Andy used a variety of mixed media to represent the imbalance of a brain's chemicals in someone suffering from poor brain health. Using textile art, oils, poetry and other media, Andy wants to show the audience that the epidemic of addiction in our youth is one of the leading causes of brain health illness in youth today. His goal for the viewer is to evoke the emotions that the sufferer may experience during a mental breakdown and foster sympathy and solidarity with them. These are not people to look down on, but people who need help. So, how can we better serve them?
