New fund to help Greeley Community Garden grow and blossom

The Greeley Community Garden was created to cultivate connections, and locals can now connect with this community asset in a new way: by donating to a new endowment fund with the Foundation for the Future of Delaware County.

An initial gift of $2,500 has helped establish the Greeley Community Garden Endowment Fund, and additional gifts can help meet a goal of $10,000. 

Linda Loecke Mayo and the Friends of the Greeley Community Garden established the garden this year as an opportunity for neighbors to gather, garden, share stories and make the community more vibrant. 

In the near term, the new fund will help sustain the garden’s seasonal costs and host fun workshops. Long-term, the fund will help the garden expand and offer educational scholarships to local youth and the broader community.

“Endowment funds like this are great ways to sustain the organizations and amenities that keep Delaware County communities vibrant and engage residents,” says Amanda Diers, the Foundation’s executive director.

How You Can Help

All gifts of $50 or more are eligible for 25% Endow Iowa Tax Credit, allowing your generosity to go further while benefiting you at tax time. Just like a seedling, the Greeley Community Garden Endowment needs care and support to grow. Every contribution makes a difference.

The Foundation also can accept non-cash gifts, including IRA rollover contributions, grain and farmland. You can also discuss establishing an endowment to support an organization or cause you care about. The Foundation’s endowment funds are invested and pay out 5% every year forever to sustain nonprofits, address local issues or fund community project.
