Shirley Templeton Vaughn

Project Coordinator

“The best part of my job is helping nonprofits so they in turn can help those in need, the underserved, the forgotten.”

Shirley is the Community Foundation's point-of-contact for those who wish to support the development of Dubuque's first Caregiver Resource Center. The center, which will be located at Stonehill Communities, will be a place where non-professionals who care for loved ones with chronic illnesses can go for an array of resources — most of which will be at no cost — that support them in their caregiver journey.

While working full time in management, Shirley was an active volunteer with area nonprofits and provided pro-bono leadership and development trainings. In the second act of her career, Shirley has found the perfect fit for her unique skills and interests. She is passionate about working with and for the underserved to help them develop self-sustaining purpose-filled lives in an equal and inclusive community. Supporting local nonprofits that offer a variety of resources to the community helps her fulfill that passion.

Shirley’s mother set an example of generosity for her family. She put everyone else before herself, giving and doing without, and she instilled her steadfast faith in each of her children. Though the members of Shirley’s family are all different, they love, support and pray for each other – and have fun together! Shirley loves to go on adventures in snow skiing, snow shoeing, biking, golf, boating and traveling on the river, convertible car rides and plane rides!

Fun Fact

Q. If a theme song could be played every time you walk into a room, what would it be?

A. "Ya'll Ready for This?” Years ago when I was a fitness instructor I started every class with this song. Today I still use it as a starter for many of my trainings to set the mood and get the group excited!
