About Us
The Dubuque Arboretum & Botanical Gardens (DABG) was started in 1980, and it has transformed farm fields into the stunning 56-acre grounds we have today. DABG was started and is still maintained by around 250 core volunteers. Plus, throughout the season, we also bring in over 150 volunteers from the community to help on special work days. Volunteers put in around 20,000 hours each year. Yearly, we bring in over 90,000 guests from all over the world. There are over 16 different types of designated gardens that showcase thousands of different plantings and trees from all over the world, all tagged for educational purposes. Over the last couple of years, organizational changes and expansion have resulted in immense growth to support our vision. Our vision is: A sanctuary where life and nature harmoniously intertwine, embracing the healing power and beauty of the natural world. DABG beauty is something we all can cherish, thanks to the valuable hours from our volunteers and the generous support that has been provided.

Our volunteers are typically community members who range from all ages. Here is a group of volunteers who take the time to plant each of our annuals by seed/plugs for our annual beds each year. Typical gardens charge guests to come in and visit; however, due to the tremendous volunteer support and generous donations, we have been able keep our grounds free to the public.
