About Us

Little Shepherd Preschool and Day Care is guided by high expectations coupled with the knowledge that all children learn at different levels and speeds. Our preschool staff will provide students with a broad range of educational & fun opportunities that will help each child learn to the best of his or her abilities. We strive to develop literacy and math skills as well as provide experiences that enrich each childs social, emotional, physical, cognitive, intellectual, and creative abilities. Children will have a safe, wholesome, nurturing educational experience. Students will be exposed to positive character lessons and experiences, used to help shape them into successful members of a social world. Parents are our partners, an integral part of the educational process. In recognition of this important role, parent involvement is actively sought, encouraged and welcomed.  Little Shepherd offers child care from 6 A.M to 6 P.M. Monday through Friday to assist busy families and provides a safe, inexpensive, nurturing environment for the children while parents work.

Success Story

Little Shepherd has been providing quality preschool to the Jackson County community for over 30 years.  Our tradition of teaching the whole child includes social, emotional, physical, cognitive, literacy, math, art, music, science and social studies.  During centers, snack time, and outdoor play, the students learn social strategies for getting along with others.  They learn how to actively listen to stories during carpet time.  Through art projects, students learn to draw, cut, glue, and create. Opportunities to learn authentically occur when we discover insects on the playground or on a walk, for example, or on field trips to the pumpkin patch, fire station, post office and hospital. We give them many experiences through play and direct instruction to help them have early success and prepare them for school.  Little Shepherd has a strong commitment to families, encouraging their participation and communicating with them both in person and via email, Facebook, and daily notes. Because of their  Little Shepherd experiences in preschool and day care, more children are better prepared for Kindergarten in the Maquoketa area.
