About Us
Main Street Elkader is an economic development and historic preservation non-profit organization focused on helping Elkader will be a model of success, a place where people come together and work together to enhance a standard of living that fosters all generations through the creation of an artful and historic downtown. As an accredited Main Street community through Main Street Iowa and Main Street America, Main Street Elkader implements the Four Point Approach when working on downtown revitalization to create a vibrant thriving downtown district.

Through our relationship with Main Street Iowa, we have been able to offer free business coaching, succession planning, and design renderings to our downtown businesses. We also have been able to extend the opportunity to our local businesses to apply for bi-annual grants only offered to Main Street communities. These grants have multiple business and building owners expand their merchandise, restore deteriorated upper vacant floors, and create new storefronts or expand existing stores. Our dedicated volunteer base leads downtown beautification projects such as hanging floor baskets or alley murals while also planning downtown events that are fun for all ages.
