The RC&D was founded in 1987 and the office is centrally located in Postville from where we serve Allamakee, Buchanan, Chickasaw, Clayton, Fayette, Howard, and Winneshiek Counties. We work with partners from throughout the region to explore natural resource based economic development opportunities while at the same time protecting and enhancing natural resources. The Board of Directors and RC&D staff have helped individuals, businesses, communities and collaboratives secure tens of millions of dollars for projects that enrich the region, strengthen the economy and protect or enhance natural resources.

Northeast Iowa RC&D has been recognized as a champion in building partnerships to protect and enhance the area's treasured natural resources. Over the past 15 years, the RC&D has led regional collaborative water monitoring and watershed protection projects that have resulted in documented water quality improvements, increased reproduction of trout in Northeast Iowa streams and protection of sensitive areas through forest and native prairie restoration. These efforts have also leveraged local support to the tune of millions of dollars in private, state and federal money flowing into Northeast Iowa to assist landowners with implementation of watershed protection practices, which also generates business for local contractors and enhances opportunities for outdoor recreation and tourism.
