About Us
Oke Potter remembers his son, Sam, as someone who loved to entertain.
“He was a very involved student in music and theater,” he said. “Since he was a child, he enjoyed entertaining his friends and family by performing magic tricks or putting on plays in his living room, often making his one brother and three sisters the guinea pigs.”
To honor his memory, Sam’s family established the Sam Potter Scholarship Memorial Scholarship Fund for Central DeWitt at the Central Community Education Foundation (CCEF).
Sam graduated from DeWitt Central High in 1981. He went on to achieve his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in theater and performing arts.
“It is a passion he carried with him all his life,” added Oke. “He especially enjoyed writing screenplays and making short films. Arguably, Sam was happiest doing what he loved: providing thoughtful and sustainable entertainment to all who appreciated theater, creative writing, or other performing arts— whether it be music, poetry, or acting.”
Sam’s legacy will live on forever through the new scholarship that will be awarded annually to a student at DeWitt Central High School interested in pursuing the performing arts.
His family is honored to present this scholarship to an outstanding student who shares the same passions Sam did.
