Community Foundation of Jackson County Awards $24,000 to Support Jackson County Nonprofits

The board members of the Community Foundation of Jackson County (CFJC) announced the recipients of the 2015 spring grantmaking cycle on Tuesday, June 23 at the Hurstville Interpretive Center in Maquoketa. Grants totaling $24,479 were awarded to the following organizations:

  • $5,400 to Maquoketa Betterment in support of ‘Maquoketa Can’
  • $3,000 to Sabula Visioning for business district signage
  • $2,500 to Bellevue High School for a leadership retreat on bullying
  • $2,500 to Maquoketa High School for distracted and drunk driving simulators
  • $2,500 to Fourth Wall Films for The Barn Raisers Documentary Film
  • $2,425 to Child Development for PlayScape tools
  • $2,354 to Ohnward Fine Arts for new computers
  • $2,000 to Maquoketa Art Experience for new canvas website
  • $1,000 to the Maquoketa Area Family YMCA for its summer day camp reading challenge
  • $800 to ICAN for its college readiness program

The CFJC awards grants in the areas of Health and Human Services, Education, Neighborhoods and Community Development, Environment; Children, Youth, and Families; and Arts and Culture, including historic preservation.

The CFJC receives funds each year from the Iowa Department of Economic Development County Endowment Program, of which 75 percent is granted out each year. The other 25 percent is maintained in a permanent endowment with the income to be distributed in future years.
