Delaware County nonprofits awarded $110,000

 

From supporting local families to funding community development, rural communities and nonprofits work hard to build a strong Delaware County. That’s why Foundation for the Future of Delaware County is proud to announce that 29 area nonprofits have been awarded $110,842 in grants to support their efforts. 

“This year’s grants touch many communities in Delaware County,” says Foundation Executive Director Amanda Diers. “It’s always exciting to hear directly from organizations serving our neighbors and learn about their projects.”

Grants were awarded to: 

  • Abbe Center for Community Mental Health for outdoor furniture - $7,222
  • Backbone Lake Promotion Assoc. for Backbone Bluegrass Festival - $3,500
  • City of Colesburg for welcome sign - $2,781.26
  • City of Delaware for playground safety - $3,750
  • City of Dundee for playground improvement - $5,000
  • City of Earlville Fire and Ambulance Dept. for extrication tools - $7,500
  • City of Edgewood for little league dugouts - $5,000
  • City of Hopkinton Public Library for programming - $7,500
  • City of Ryan for pickleball court fencing - $3,750
  • Delaware County Economic Development for school to work program - $3,000
  • Delaware County Emergency Management for crisis caninie - $5,000
  • Delaware County Fair Society for stormwater mitigation plan - $7,500
  • Delaware County Historical Society for Imagination Library - $3,750
  • Delaware County Sheriff's Office for patrol thermal unit - $3,300
  • Delaware County Suicide Coalition for My Ascension screening program - $1,495
  • Kid Project Child Care Center for gym safety in new facility - $2,032.50
  • Earlville Athletics Association for infield revitalization - $5,000
  • Ed-Co Learn Create Compete for shop tools - $3,500
  • Family’s Helping Hand for Family Resource Center food pantry - $1,000
  • Friends of Manchester Fish Hatchery for kiosk and signage - $1,164.50
  • Greeley Keep Iowa Beautiful for seasonal banners - $7,500
  • Hopkinton Little League for visitor seating - $5,000
  • Iowa College Access Network for high school preparedness and financial aid access - $2,000
  • Iowa State University Extension & Outreach - Delaware County for school enrichment programming - $1,000
  • Manchester Public Library for children’s library technology - $1,950
  • Maquoketa Valley Community School District for middle school character strong curriculum - $3,000
  • Operation Santa Claus for Delaware County families - $3,000
  • Regional Medical Center for Future Nurses: The Next Generation of Superheroes - $1,447
  • West Delaware Community School District for welding program - $3,200

The Foundation received 54 applications for over $300,000. Grants are made possible because of funds received each year from the State of Iowa County Endowment Program. Seventy-five percent of the money received is granted out, while 25% is maintained in a permanent endowment, with the income to be distributed in future years.
