Dyersville Area Community Foundation Awards $5,000 to support area nonprofits

The Dyersville Area Community Foundation (DACF) granted $5,000 to support local nonprofits on Wednesday, October 21 at its annual gifts and grants ceremony.

Six local nonprofits received grants at the reception held at the Country Junction Restaurant in Dyersville.

“There are a lot of nonprofits, with a lot of grant needs,” said Board Secretary Karla Thompson to an audience of donors, nonprofits and honored guests. “The Foundation knows locally where the nonprofit needs are, and I think it’s a privilege to be able to present these grants today.”

“Until these grants became available, it was an uphill struggle,” noted Dave Kramer from Mt. Hope Cemetery, which received a grant to continue renovations at this historic cemetery. “This cemetery is the final resting place of some of our founders, and this money will help bring back this historic cemetery and let everyone know how Dyersville got started.”

Thompson announced the following grant winners at the ceremony:

Dyersville Area Historical Society - $1,600 for wood windows at the historic Dyer-Botsford House

New Vienna VFW - $900 for a new sign

Kennedy Library - $750 for “Tablets 4 Tots”

St. Francis Xavier School - $750 for book preservation

Mt. Hope Cemetery - $600 for restoration

New Vienna Historical Society - $400 for leaf protectors

Alliant Energy, Casey’s, Black Hills Energy, Honkamp Krueger & Company, and Maquoketa Valley Electric Cooperative sponsored accommodations for the annual meeting.
