Dyersville Area Community Foundation welcomes Scherrman, Olberding

The Dyersville Area Community Foundation is pleased to announce the addition of two new board members, Cookie Scherrman and Jeremy Olberding.

“Cookie and Jeremy are committed to making a positive difference in our community. Adding their knowledge and life experiences will strengthen our board’s ability to serve the Dyersville area,” says Sheila Tegeler, board chair.  “I’m thankful and excited for their involvement.”

Scherrman grew up in Dyersville, where she and her husband, Don, raised five children. They have 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, who inspire Scherrman to look forward to a bright future. As a board member, she is excited to learn, share ideas and support community members in addressing local needs together.

“Growing up in Dyersville, we knew everyone. Newcomers were few, so the population stayed pretty much the same. That is not bad, but I believe that the influx of people from diverse backgrounds and religions has been good for our community,” she says. “They bring a variety of talents, cultures, ideas and skillsets to expand our horizons.”

Scherrman has been involved in the local church community, and also has worked with a variety of other groups and residents, including the school, disabled adults, the elderly and the food pantry. She eager to draw on these experiences in her service to the board.

“I am excited about being a part of this board because it is about making our area a better place to live,” she says. "It is about helping people and communities with projects and programs that would not happen without assistance.”

Olberding also grew up in Dyersville, and is now raising his daughters, Everlee and Amara, here with his wife, Carisa.

“This community is very important to me,” he says. "I look forward to watching it grow and continue to be a great place for people to raise their families. I’m excited to build on what the Community Foundation has done in the past for our communities so we can make our community a better place to live and work in the future.”
