Endowment payout supports Ed-Co seniors

Each year, payouts from endowment funds held by the Foundation for the Future of Delaware County support organizations’ missions and improve quality of life in local communities. One of those funds is an endowment launched by family and friends of the late Joan Preuss, which honors Joan’s memory by providing scholarships for graduating seniors in the Edgewood-Colesburg School District.

“The mission of the Joan Preuss Memorial Endowment Fund is to provide a lasting legacy that will be used for the long-term benefit of the Edgewood area,” says her daughter, Kely Hemann. “She was dedicated to her community and family. She set an example of volunteerism and giving that will continue through this fund.”

Joan’s family also started a non-endowed fund in her memory that supports projects and causes in Edgewood and at the school, such as park benches, the arts and booster club activities, as well as events hosted to support local cancer patients.

The Foundation holds funds for many nonprofits as well as individuals and families with charitable goals. In 2022, the Foundation’s family of funds distributed $167,000 to community projects in Delaware County.

“The Foundation connects donors with the greatest needs in our community,” says Executive Director Amanda Diers. “We offer many opportunities to improve quality of life by addressing an array of local issues.” To learn more about how you can establish a fund or make a gift that impacts your community, contact Diers at 563-880-3816 or email ffdc@dbqfoundation.org.
