FFDC Board Visits Sites in Hopkinton

A few weeks ago, the Foundation for the Future of Delaware County board of directors visited grant sites in Hopkinton.

The stops included a visit to the Hopkinton EMS, which recieved grants in 2015 and 2016 for new equipment, and the Hopkinton Little League Project, which recieved a grant in 2016 for repairs to the local ballfield.

This year, the FFDC awarded more than $70,000 to support 34 nonprofit organizations. Grants were made possible with dollars from the County Endowment Fund Program. This initiative, unique to Iowa, makes grants to create a strong community foundation infrastructure in 84 counties like Delaware that do not hold state-issued gaming licenses.

The program was created by the Iowa Legislature in 2004 and is funded through a percentage of state gaming revenues.

Each year, the Foundation for the Future of Delaware County (FFDC) receives funds from the County Endowment Fund Program. The FFDC grants out 75 percent of these funds and invests the remaining 25 percent in a permanent endowment that generates interest to be distributed in future years. Grants are awarded in the areas of health and human services; education; neighborhood and community development; the environment; children, youth, and families; and arts and culture including historic preservation.
