Jim Owen: Creating Opportunity for Youth

Established by long-time DeWitt resident Jim Owen, The James D. Owen Jr. Fund for Youth Golf will work in coordination with DeWitt Parks and Recreation to offer lessons and equipment for youth with an interest in pursuing golf.

“This will allow us to provide more opportunities for young people to learn and experience golf,” said Kevin Lake, director of parks and recreation for the city of DeWitt. “We’re humbled that Jim has included us in the process and were excited to expose as many people as we can to the great game of golf.”

An avid golfer, Owen was inspired to establish the fund so he could share his love for the sport with area youth.

“My motivation is to help the community,” said Owen. “This is one way I thought I could help local youth.”

Gifts to endowment funds are eligible for the Endow Iowa 25% State Tax Credit. This tax credit is in addition to the federal deduction for charitable gifts. Endow Iowa is a financial incentive for individual donors, families, and businesses to create or build endowments to give back to their community. For some donors, the actual cost of the gift is 40 cents on the dollar; and the increased charitable impact per dollar gifted is one of the reasons endowments are growing in Clinton County.
