New Scholarship to Honor Kenny Tackman

Brenda Tackman remembers her husband Kenny as a kind man with a big heart who could fix anything.

“Kenny just enjoyed working on things and meeting people,” she says. “There wasn’t anything he couldn’t fix.”

To honor her late husband’s memory, Brenda Tackman established the Kenny Tackman Memorial Scholarship Endowment through the Clayton County Foundation for the Future.

Kenny’s legacy will live on forever through the new scholarship that will support students studying mechanics and agriculture: two of Kenny’s favorite things.

“He was a very handy man and he loved farming,” says Brenda. “ He lived for it.”

During even numbered years beginning in spring, 2016, the scholarship will support students at Clayton Ridge High School pursing the technical study of mechanics. And during odd numbered years, beginning in spring, 2017, it will support students at the school pursing the study of agriculture.

“I just know Kenny would love to see it helping somebody do the things that he loved to do,” says Brenda.

Gifts to endowment funds are eligible for the Endow Iowa 25% State Tax Credit. This tax credit is in addition to the federal deduction for charitable gifts. Endow Iowa is a financial incentive for individual donors, families, and businesses to create or build endowments to give back to their community. For some donors, the actual cost of the gift is 40 cents on the dollar; and the increased charitable impact per dollar gifted is one of the reasons endowments are growing in Clayton County.

Applications for the scholarship will be available in spring 2016 through Clayton Ridge High School.
