Theisen’s Home • Farm • Auto awards grants in Clinton County

The Dubuque-based retailer’s More for Your Community grant program, a partnership with the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque, supports organizations addressing the basic needs of children and families.

As inflation impacts people across the country, Dubuque-based retailer Theisen’s Home • Farm • Auto is helping address issues like food insecurity, housing support and access to health resources through its More for Your Community grant program.

This month, Theisen’s announces that 188 nonprofits in 23 of its store communities across Iowa and Wisconsin have received a total of $350,326 in More for Your Community grants. That includes eight organizations in Clinton County that received $10,600. Clinton County grant recipients are:

  • Iowa State University Extension & Outreach - Clinton County - $250 for "Real Money, Real World." Financial Literacy Education
  • Faith Lutheran Church - $500 for Feeding the Children
  • Iowa College Access Network - $750 for Raising Attainment Levels in Education & the Workforce - Clinton County
  • Grand Mound Fire & Rescue - $800 for Mass Casualty Safety Equipment
  • Lutheran Services in Iowa - $1,000 for Clinton County Family Support Home Visitation Program

  • River Cities Information, Referral & Assistance Services - $2,800 for Back Pack Buddy Program
  • YWCA Clinton - $3,000 for YWCA Clinton Empowerment Center - "Bridging the Gap: Homeless to Housed"

Successful grant applicants demonstrated that their projects would serve basic needs, be matched strongly with local funds, and provide opportunities for others to give back to the community.

“People are struggling, and this grant program is our way of supporting residents of the communities we serve in their time of need,” says President and CEO Chris Theisen. “We are so proud to support organizations providing food, shelter, health care, safety and education to children and families in and near our store communities.”

Celebrating its thirteenth year, the Theisen’s More for Your Community grant program has given away nearly $3.4 million to support local nonprofits and the people they serve. Based on estimates in nonprofit grant applications, this year’s grants are expected to impact more than 630,000 people.

Theisen’s Home • Farm • Auto is a four-generation, family-owned business. Three generations of the Theisen family support this grant program, taking active roles in evaluating each year’s many applications. They also make annual site visits to nonprofit grantees to learn about community needs and to meet the nonprofit leaders serving children and families.

The Theisen’s More for Your Community corporate giving program is a partnership with the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque. The Community Foundation administers the grant program, accepting applications and making funding recommendations as part of its mission to strengthen communities and inspire giving. This year, 343 applications were received totaling more than $1.1 million. To view a list of grantees, visit dbqfoundation.org/theisens.
